About Me...
I work with diverse populations who feel chronically unsafe in their bodies, emotions, thoughts, and environments. This could present in the form of abusive relationships, experience with childhood trauma, eating disorders, struggles with body image, and different forms of racism including everything from micro aggressions to systemic racism. Healing begins by empowering the individual to gain safety and control in their minds, bodies, and surroundings- whilst also allowing space for client and therapist to explore how traumatic experiences affect our human ability to experience peace.
In my work with clients and through my own lived experiences, I have been made painfully aware of how our mental health system often fails our multiply marginalized populations. Due to this, my therapeutic approach is also deeply rooted in advocacy work and bringing awareness to how our community and larger systems are affecting our well-being. With my clients I believe in a person-centered and holistic-based approach to social and behavioral issues that present in everyday life. I work to meet clients where they are by examining the current status of their mental, emotional, spiritual, and social states and then collaborating with clients to come up with a plan to mend any broken connections in any of those areas.
I use a variety of trauma-informed and evidence based modalities including EMDR, DBT, and mindfulness based practices. My therapeutic approach also relies heavily upon bringing awareness to social constructs, challenging a wide variety of stigmas, and examining how all of these items affect our mental health and views of ourselves. Above all, I seek to help clients restore a sense of safety and control in their lives.
